Director of Housing & Health

Breathe even fresher air into our district.

Role:
Director of Housing & Health

Salary:
Up to £102,000 per annum

With miles of stunning coastline and beautiful countryside, East Devon is an ideal destination. At East Devon District Council, we’re extremely proud of our strong position and the external recognition we’ve received to date, but there’s so much more to do. We are rolling out an extensive development agenda that includes the creation of a second New Town, an Enterprise Zone, and a multi-million-pound set of investments to deliver on our net zero commitment.

With a newly appointed Chief Executive in 2024, our council is ready to reach even greater heights. To support our aims, we’re looking for a new leader to shape and deliver our ambitious plans.

Of course, every council has ‘ambitions’, but they don’t necessarily have our commitment, investment and drive to make them a reality. The difference is, we haven’t been afraid to invest. We’re constantly looking at ways to improve our economy, our towns, our communities and our whole district in bold and innovative ways.

Some say we’re redefining the role of district councils, but we see it more as doing good by our residents and businesses. We’re making East Devon a place where culture sits at the heart of economic progress, where tourism is helping the county flourish and where our families can live their best lives. We’re now starting to achieve this through delivering incredible projects, such as shaping one of the UK’s newest and fast-growing towns, funding our important enterprise zone and ensuring we stay afloat of our environmental responsibilities. And not just that, we have many more initiatives, projects and ideas waiting for their time in the sun.

About the Role

As Director of Housing & Health, you’ll have strategic oversight of our c.4,300 council houses. We need a proven leader in the housing space to guide our expert teams, and to shape and deliver an effective planned maintenance programme over the next 3-5 years to revolutionise how we manage our properties. You’ll work closely with the people of East Devon to achieve even greater standards, and progress and implement new strategies, including those to promote social inclusion, community development and our wider housing strategy, and be responsible for our statutory housing teams. Linked to this, you’ll lead us to further develop our public health and wellbeing, anti-poverty, safeguarding, and environmental improvement strategies.

If you’re interested in shaping the future of our council, we would love to hear from you.
