Director of Place

Breathe even fresher air into our district.

Role:
Director of Place

Salary:
Up to £115,000 per annum (inclusive of market supplement)

With miles of stunning coastline and beautiful countryside, East Devon is an ideal destination. At East Devon District Council, we’re extremely proud of our strong position and the external recognition we’ve received to date, but there’s so much more to do. We are rolling out an extensive development agenda that includes the creation of a second New Town, an Enterprise Zone, and a multi-million-pound set of investments to deliver on our net zero commitment.

With a newly appointed Chief Executive in 2024, our council is ready to reach even greater heights. To support our aims, we’re looking for a new leader to shape and deliver our ambitious plans.

Of course, every council has ‘ambitions’, but they don’t necessarily have our commitment, investment and drive to make them a reality. The difference is, we haven’t been afraid to invest. We’re constantly looking at ways to improve our economy, our towns, our communities and our whole district in bold and innovative ways.

Some say we’re redefining the role of district councils, but we see it more as doing good by our residents and businesses. We’re making East Devon a place where culture sits at the heart of economic progress, where tourism is helping the county flourish and where our families can live their best lives. We’re now starting to achieve this through delivering incredible projects, such as shaping one of the UK’s newest and fast-growing towns, funding our important enterprise zone and ensuring we stay afloat of our environmental responsibilities. And not just that, we have many more initiatives, projects and ideas waiting for their time in the sun.

About the Role

In the brand new role of Director of Place, you’ll take the lead in enhancing our district like we’ve never seen before. We’re keen to find a creative and dynamic place maker; someone who is passionate about creating the highest possible prospects and standards within our natural environment. There are opportunities in abundance for economic growth, inward investment, and asset rationalisation in our district – we just need someone to lead us there. Not only this, but you’ll oversee our already high performing services across planning and development management, Streetscene, countryside and leisure, and wider environmental services, including our multi-million-pound waste and recycling contracts – one of the best performing in the country.

If you’re interested in shaping the future of our council, we would love to hear from you.
